Testimonials
"I'm trying to write a monologue play and I wanted to hear insights and tips from a proven writer and performer. Lily was an excellent, inspiring and nurturing tutor. The content of the workshop was extremely interesting and the monologue examples were well chosen. There was also a warm and inclusive group dynamic."

"I enjoyed the Monologue workshop’s: Liveliness, Directness, Appreciation, Authenticity, Engagement of everyone in the group, Invitation for all to focus on their experience of other's writing, what they appreciated, what they were curious about -- deftly skirting the horrid thumbs up/down syndrome, Lily's obvious love of the work... of writing, performance."

"I had such a great time at the sessions..from a structure point of view, I thought it was great that Lily really took the charge of the session technically and creatively. That's a very comforting thing especially on zoom, really allowed everyone to speak up and take up space. And then because I'm new to writing and often the worry has been that I'm not clever enough or don't have enough ideas, I loved the emphasis on it being attainable by just noting down every little thing and seeing where that takes you. You don't have to conjure something out of mid-air."

"Thank you so much for two really interesting sessions. The quality of the work was astonishingly high, I thought. But a good deal of that was down to Lily because she is very enabling and built trust so quickly. That has to be even harder on Zoom than in a room. I’m so glad I spotted the details on Lane’s List and, somewhat uncharacteristically, organised myself in time.."

"What a fun few nights!! I am very new to this writing game- I definitely don't consider myself a writer - and found it all so inspiring. I thought it was structured really well. We covered a lot in the short space time we had. I found it very helpful (and very scary) to share my work ... especially as I've been thinking about this story for a while but it hasn't really gone beyond what's in my head. I also (re)learnt the value of a deadline!! made me sit and just write without overthinking too much. So so glad I did Lily’s workshop and would love to do a longer one."

“I wanted to learn more about building monologues (from scratch). Lily went through lots of examples, gave us lots of strategy, which gave us enough of a starting point to complete the overnight task that we then got useful, constructive feedback on. I think she had a great handle on timing and went at an engaging, consistent speed without it feeling at all rushed, so we got through a lot - and it was very fair on all participants. She was really careful to make sure everyone was involved, everyone spoke, and everyone received feedback.”

“It was helpful to look closely at a few monologues in quite different voices. The feedback was thoughtful and helpful and I appreciated the atmosphere Lily managed to create in such a short space of time, of being generous and accepting of the work/each other/ ourselves.A great course - a lot of insight in a short space of time, and great to have a variety of ages in the group, I feel like that always makes a writing group 10x better.”
